I rooted my phone last night and downloaded two apps wifi tether and barnacle tether. First i tried barnacle tether and it connected on the computer side but it did not show anyone had connected on the phone and my computer connection was limited and had the ssid as (identifying) barnacle then i tried wifi tether and the same thing happened. I went to the site and even downloaded the updated pak but it still does the same thing.

You should really refrain from stealing tether.

Do u have a custom rom installed? And a custom kernel? A lot of times it's something that ur kernel doesn't support so u just need a different one that allows it. That's probably ur problem

Why should I refrain? No i don't have custom anything i only have rooted the phone kinda scared to brick it by using custom ROM. If that is what I have to do I might.

If anyone could tell me what ROM i need it would be helpful i haven't seen any that specifically say that wifi tether will work with it.

There's been a lot of discussion about those tethering without a plan being targeted right now. Google has been working with many carriers to track rooted users and particularly those who use tethering without paying for it. P3Droid was discussing on twitter and it was posted here at DF a couple of days ago. I'll look up a link.

Yeah life without internet is a bummer. I guess you don't have any gracious neighbors offering free wifi? (And not that I'd condone sharing unsecured wifi; they're prolly either sweet old people who don't know how to configure or its a honeypot and you're in trouble ;) )

I think it's more effective to just read on it, but basically a honeypot is a security hole left intentionally open as a trap. For instance, with wifi, they may be filtering traffic for sensitive information.

i don't think i've ever heard of anyone that has actually bricked their phone through bad software there are always ways to fix software issues but again it's ur choice obviously i think rooting is great and adds a lot to ur device i would never put up with an unrooted device but that's just me
