help with email

The default app crashes constantly for me with imap, so I use K9, works well, my friend would like to buy a droid, and we tested k9 and default email.
Default email had the same issue with imap
k9 has a problem with TLS, it garbles outgoing.
Issue 799 - k9mail - Messages sent via SMTP+TLS appear mangled to the recipient - Project Hosting on Google Code
so any other email programs that might work?
