ok so i got my phone today. droid 3 xt862 on 5.7.906. i tired to get root via petes motorola root tool v1.06 and i can not get root. gives and error at setp 3. so i tried to SBF to 5.6.890 and its giving me an error at step 6. im going everything correctly and have retried 3 or 4 times. i looked up to see what the error was about and i read something more or less that my phone has been updated to far to SBF.
My question. is their another way to gain root and can i use ss3 on 5.6.906. the roms i wanna use are based off 5.6.906 just to clarify. or could some tell me how i can SBF?????? any help will be thanks! :hail:

Use Motofail to root. Google it or search this forum to find link.

Also, Overlayer has a one-click SBF for .906. Again, you can google or search this forum for a link.

well i SBF back to 5.6.890( Used "CLICK HERE - Flash Verizon DROID 3 OTA 5.6.890 to phone" to do it with) and tried petesmotorola root tool v1.6 and 1.7 and it gives me the same error on both versions

"SEARCHING FOR THE PHONE (connect it now if you haven't yet)... found!
Running exploit step 1 of 3 (setting up symlink)... done!
Rebooting your phone... done!
Running exploit step 2 of 3 (modifying local.prop)... done!
Rebooting your phone... done!
Running exploit step 3 of 3 (adding su, busybox, and superuser.apk)... FAIL!

ERROR: adb could not be granted root access via local.prop method

Try again from the start, but if the problem continues, check your version
of Gingerbread -- hopefully you don't have a version where this exploit
was fixed."
step 1 and 2 work but not 3. motofail has been a fail to.
everything has been downloaded of this forms only!!
i can read directions and use google but this one i can find anything. hoping someone might know.
also i will add that the phone is NOT activated yet, not shore if this would effect it or not. doing this
tomorrow thats kinda why i wanna be rooted so i can start flashing roms

PLEASE HELP ME!!!! Stock Is cool but to much bloat and it makes the phone lag and the battery isent the best. That might be cus I can't put the thing down but like I said, I've looker around be4 asking for help.

umm the zip is what you want
place it in your external sdcard
boot you phone into stock recovery by pressing the power button and the x button at the same time hen the triangle appears hit both. Volume buttons at the same time
scroll down to install update by using your volume buttons then press the power button to select it
select the update.zip you downloaded scroll with the volume buttons and select it by pressing the power button
after it installs choose reboot
once you have successfully updated to 906 you can use motofail to root your device

Ok I did this and I worked back to 906. I fell stupid cus I really did look just got confused when it said recovery. Did not know phones came with a stock recovery. Also I tried to root via motofail and im still getting errors and all that. I think its because im not using a moto cable. I have an LG one and a Samsung one but no moto. Report back once I have a moto cable my results.
