Hangouts/Messenger AND Delivery reports

Has anyone been able to successfully get Hangouts or Messenger to display SMS delivery reports? I've turned them on on both apps, as I have tried them, and not had any luck. It's a handy feature to not bug people if they have not yet received a message and not knowing.

Mine works with messages+ as long as the other person uses the same app. I think hangouts may work the same way
