The wait took a little longer than expected, but Adobe finally made good on their promise to bring Flash Player 10.1 to the Android platform. The first beta was released during Google I/O and it was a little sluggish at first, but Google and Adobe have worked closely together to improve performance.

Now that it appears we have the final version of Android 2.2, I wanted to take another look at the latest Flash 10.1 Beta 3 and show how it works. Anyone running Android 2.2 can easily download the plugin from the Android Market and begin using it.

Since Flash 10.1 is still in beta, this is by no means a final review. As you can see from my video below, the loading times of some videos is slow (even over WiFi), but it’s hard to complain when other mobile platforms don’t even have access to Flash. I ran into difficulty playing some Flash games that required a keyboard, but thankfully Adobe setup the Flash Mobile Showcase which has a list of sites that are optimized for the mobile platform.

Flash is not something most users will use everyday, but it’s always nice to have it when you need it. There have been countless times in the past when I could not load a website and now that barrier is gone. I look forward to the final release and I can’t wait to see what developers create using this exciting new platform.
