Handcent sms

Installed this program mainly to use voice to text right from within the app.
When I get a text the installed app that came with the phone shows 1 text even though i have opened it in handcent anyone know how to stop this

Go to settings in the stock app and look for notifications and uncheck it

Sorry I should have said that yes under notification settings there is Notifications and the check mark is grayed out actually the only thing that is selected is delete old messages. But still I get notification when I get a text and the only way to get rid of it is go also go into that program and view the text
