I saw that this morning and was just coming back to start a thread on it.

Good thing or bad thing?

I guess it makes sense from Google's perspective, they can focus on developing the Android OS and let a hardware company build them a platform to run it on. They got the ball rolling with the X, now let Lenovo run with it.

Google only bought moto for their patents. They released some better devices under the moto name to bring up the value to sell it off. Win win situation I think.

Google had also previously sold off another piece of Motorola, for something like $2.5 billion. So still a huge loss, but not $9 billion.
