gmail syncing not consistently

hey guys (and gals),

i've been noticing that i dont get the emails sent to my gmail account all the time. sometimes it wont show anything until i manually refresh my inbox. other times it wont notify me(no sound nor anything in the notification area) but the email is in the inbox. is anyone else having this problem? is there a fix?

I've been having the same problem so i download gmail notifier app. it seemed better but not really.
