Gingerbread hits AOSP Repo

The title just brought a smile to the hacking communities face. 2.3 aka Gingerbread has just hit Androids Open Source Projects repository. It will be just a matter of time before the community reaps the benefits of all the delicious Gingerbread ROMS that will be pouring in any day now. Ok, any hour now.

Endgadget reports that coders are being asked to "wait a few hours or a few days" before downloading to balance out the server load. Yeah like thats going to happen.

Anyone have any news what the differences might be? Not announced upgrades, but actual tangible differences from having used it. My phone is running so well with Froyo (with the exception of Google Maps) that I am hesitant to change if there are not any real differences.

I can't believe no one has mention of a gingerbread rom for the droid in the works so far unless I've missed it. I'm syncing the source now to see if I can come up with something tonight, I've been practicing on froyo all week.
