Facebook and contact linking

I've had my ERIS for a while now and minus a few minor problems, things have been ok. As of recently I've noticed that I can't link any of my "new" facebook friends into my contacts. When I'm on the contact page and I choose the link option, the 'link to facebook' option comes up and shows me a list of all my current facebook friends. For some reason I am unable to locate these new friends on my phone---it's as if they don't exist as facebook friends at all. I have logged out of the facebook app and have synched it manually in my phone settings and still these friends aren't registering on my phone. Not sure if this is due to the big 'update' we had earlier this summer or if there is something else I can do to get my phone to get with the program!
