Empty desktop (no icons)

About once a week when I press Home from an application, my Droid's desktop is clear. The wallpaper is there, I can page left and right to different, empty desktops, and I can open the application list and run things. The phone isn't locked up but the desktop is empty and remains so until I power cycle. Has anyone else seen this?

This will, presumably, require a f/w upgrade. When I first got my phone it checked in, found an upgrade, and installed it. Is that always an automatic process (as it seems to be for applications) or might there be upgrades out there I haven't installed?

Updates are automatic. When the 2.1 comes to your phone it will let you know.

As for your problem, I'm not sure why your home screen in sometimes blank.

Do you have any home-replacements installed?

Eta is anytime now. You can force the update if you don't want to wait. Browse the Active Topics section here to learn how.
