email sync and notification

I have two email accounts on my X, one gmail and one hotmail. I use the hotmail for website registration and anything else that may generate junk mail. I use the gmail for family and friends so when I get an email I generally want to receive it. When I had 2.1 I had the phone set up to sync hotmail manually so as not to receive a notification every hour for junk mail. I had gmail set up to sync every 15 minutes with a notification. Now with 2.2 it seems that there is only on setting that controls all email accounts. I want to keep hotmail but would like to sync it manually while still receiving gmail automatically. Am I missing something or is that the way it is now? Also, hotmail is set up as my default and I see no way of changing it. When I hit the set default button hotmail is the only option.

You could use the K9 email client. It will let you set up polling and notification separately for each account. Max polling time is 30min, but like I said you can turn off the notifications.

It also supports push, so you can get your gmail even faster.
