Editing eri.xml help

How can I customize the eri banner from what I understand it is the eri.xml file located in framework-res.apk. I've opened the apk using 7zip and then i pull the eri.xml to the desktop I then right clicked the xml and chose open with and selected notepad i scrolled till i got here AlertId EriInfo [FONT=&quot][1][/FONT][FONT=&quot][1][/FONT]64 Verizon Wireless [FONT=&quot][1][/FONT][FONT=&quot][1][/FONT]65 Network Extender [FONT=&quot][1][/FONT][FONT=&quot][1][/FONT]66 then I changed verizon wireless to George's Droid and put two spaces after it so that it was the same length as Verizon Wireless I saved it and then deleted the eri.xml from the framework-res.apk and replaced it with the one i edited in notepad then i put it on the root of my sdcard and used the following commands in terminal emulator

su
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk system/framework/
chmod 644 system/framework/framework-res.apk
sync
reboot


but when i reboot i have no service so i tried restarting but still no service what am i doing wrong? or are there any other ways please be specific in explaining thanks for any help
