DroidX Half of Screen blanks out

The last two days the bottom half (actually slightly more than half) of the screen blanks out. Actually it is replaced by noise or stripes. The phone works fine as long as I can reach the buttons or guess where the obscured ones are. I tried resetting by pulling the battery out to no avail. When it restarted, the bottom half was still gone. Twice in the last day it suddenly "repaired" itself but then after a few hours it lost the bottom half of the screen again. At first I thought it was a hardware error and I have a replacement phone on it's way, but I'm wondering if maybe Android is "forgetting" the screen size somehow. Nothing on the screen is resized, just part of the display is missing.

Any ideas?

Contact Motorola

Contact Motorola support, to determine if the device is still covered by their warranty, in which case they wil replace it. In my case I called one month after my Motorola warranty expired but they offer to fix the device for $110.
