I had a similar thread I posted last week...
now some circumstances have changed:

I was saying last week my dilemma is that i just got a Droid about 2 weeks ago..... SO i still qualify for the 30 day exchange phones thing with Verizon...
I asked last week should I keep my Droid or exchange it for the Droid X...

a few people that responded said no because Droid has root as well as few other reasons.. I agreed and I rooted my Droid and started having fun.....

NOW that it has been announced today that the Droid X has been rooted I am WONDERING yet again whether I should go and exchange it... I almost bolted out the door and did it today but the unroot steps i did aint work out right....

SO Should I stay or should I go??????

it depends if you want/need the keyboard. plus the droidx is much bigger. it depends if you think it is too big or not.

Tough call. There always will be another phone coming out. Some get them all. It depends on your circumstance.

I've had my phone since last Nov. I've had tons of fun with it. I anticipate this fun will continue until at least next summer. People will keep tweaking the phone's roms and better stuff will keep being made available on it.

Others who have the X will say it is faster out of the box. Root will let you wifi-tether.

It is up to you. Guaranteed that whichever option you choose you probably will have days where you think, damn...shoulda/shouldn't have switched :)

yea I know it would take a while for root to really evolve on the X.. but just the fact it has it means something..... I actually do like the bigger screen on it.... my girl has an X and ive played around with it a little...its size doesnt bother me... and the virtual keyboard is very efficient....

But i do like the already evolved root on the Droid and its physical keyboard.... so I am at such a loss lol........

What would yall do personally??

I want to have both myself but the way I come to see these things. Is that there really is always something better just around the corner. If its not upgrade time then why stress your wallet? The Droid has a lot of life left in it and people are making it faster and smoother every minute.

I think the Original Droid will get GingerBread Crumbs so I'm keeping the OD for awhile

I'm with you. I got me Droid end of March and thanks to rooting, OC kernels, etc., this phone is perfect for me and I anticpate it will continue to get better with the ongoing tweaking. Like you, I plan on keeping it at least until next summer.

i'd keep my original droid if i had to choose. the droid x is a great phone, no doubt about it, but in all honesty, i don't think verizon and motorola knocked it outta the park with the droid x. i told myself i was getting it the second it came out, but after going to the store and playing with it, i decided it just wasn't for me. seems a bit laggy at times, the camera was less than impressive. i'd just rather stick with my rooted droid for now and see what the future holds for better verizon phones.

I got a free Droid X (My company has hundreds of Verizon phones.) I was debating keeping my Droid over the Droid X's larger screen. I was rooted on the Droid, flashing a new ROM every other day. So I was thinking I would try the X for a few days then go back to my Droid. (This was before yesterday.)

Well the deal breaker for me was that the DroidX has Skype pre-installed. I don't need the physical keyboard. Now that it is rooted, all is fine. I don't miss the custom ROM's, but I do miss FroYo. Hopefully we get that soon and it does not have a patch that takes away root.

Im keeping D1 till the updates stop, then I am rooting my phone. I would like to wait for the Droid that's coming with the 2ghz processor. When that happens, I'll upgrade.

and I type this from my Droid.

All very valid points... I think the only real thing that makes me want the X (like i said b4) is the screen size..... I dont kno why I like the screen size.... but at the same time I love my Droid......

If my girl hadn't told me about Verizon's 30 day exchange policy then I wouldnt have this dilemma LOL... I would still be perfectly content with my D1.

Doesn't really matter what I'd do unless your needs/wants happen to exactly match mine but the locked bootloader is a non-starter for me.

thats not the question i asked.. thats why I put "personally" im just curious about other peoples opinions and NEEDS as u say...

+1

I love the physical keyboard, overclocked at 1ghz, Froyo, Rooted (of course), it's an amazing piece of equipment. No reason to upgrade until everything has really surpassed it. dancedroid
