My Droid X camera is showing a black screen for both camera and camcorder. No solution with a quick reset or a factory restore. Is anybody else having these issues? Tech Support says a replacement is the only fix.
I've seen one other thread from a user with a similar issue. The shutter in the DroidX is mechanical (not software), your's clearly has a problem and should be replaced.
I had the same problem. I called tech support and they didn't have an answer but that my phone needed to be replaced. We I "formatted" memory card. Go into your settings then to SD card then select unmount SD card then select format sd card.
Once I did that it worked. Hopefully that helps everyone else because I was getting pretty annoyed!
My droid x experienced the same problem. When I look at the shutter, it never opens. This occurs in both camera and camcorder mode. The software works, and takes a picture or video, but it is always black. I did try reformatting the sd card but that didn't help. Verizon was very helpful and immediately ordered me a new phone which I should have by next week. Other than the camera problem, I am quite pleased with the droid x. I upgraded from an original droid.
My shutter is open but everytime I try to take a pic, the phone beeps twice and doesn't take the pic. I've tried changing settings but nothing seems to work.
Like many of you i took 1 photo and the camera went to black. Nothing i did fixed it. Called Motorola and they said a reset would fix it but i would lose the hours of work i spent setting it up. They also said this was the first the had heard of the camera problem. I went in to Verizon today and they worked on it for 40 min before the full reset which did nothing. They confirmed it should be replaced but they are sold out here on Maui HI and have no clue when more will arrive. They called corp office and they said they could not send a new one because it is a business account. After 2 hours my phone has been wiped clean, no guarantee of a new one this month, no camera and claims by both Motorola & Verizon that i am the only one with this problem. This really SUCKS!
I just got back from the beach and picked up my X on the way home... got home and played with it for a few hours... took a picture and everything went fine... couple hours later i went to take a picture and all i got was a black screen. I went to the verizon store and they said the shutter wasnt opening and I was the only person to have the problem so far. They told me there was nothing they could do to fix and id have to replace it.. and go through all the hassle of setting up everything on my phone again not impressed so far.
Having the same issue. Read about all your experiences and decided to head to verizon to exchange my phone. As I was in the process of getting it replaced another walked up and reported he was having the same issue. Sound like a broader issue than first thought. Unfortunately the new phone won't be shipped until the 27th. I'm curious though if all the bad ones are from the same lot and being shipped to the same area. I'm in RI anyone else.
im in richmond, va.. I got mine replaced the same day fortunately, best buy had a left over from the presale and so far its working great. Some bugs here and there but overall its runnin smooth.
After a few frustrating hours last night I finally got my camera working. I ended up doing a wireless update and that seemed to fix the camera issue as well as the slowness issue I was having. For those of you that don't know, go to Settings/About Phone/System Updates, hope that helps. dancedroid
