DROID Newbie. Can't Update or Wipe my new phone

Hey all,

Just picked up a DROID yesterday and I'm already having some problems. Been searching around the interwebs but no help so far so maybe someone here can help. Here's the issue.

Powered up DROID for the first time and i was asked to update to 2.0.1. I pressed install it rebooted to the motorola logo where it hung. I didn't know what was going on so I let it sit for like 45 mins when I came back same Motorola logo.

Did a battery pull and it booted right back up but it was still at 2.0 and when I tried to search for an update it says your device is up to date.

So I tried to do a wipe of my device using the option in the privacy settings. I click it it reboots and hangs at the motorola logo again. Battery pull boots back up and nothing is erased.

I read on the forum to try holding X when powering on until a yellow exclamation point pops up. No avail if I hold X it just hangs at the logo screen. Battery pull and it boots back up.

Any suggestions on how to wipe this phone and get 2.0.1 on it?

Did you get it in a Verizon store? If so go there and they'll do it.

It's weird that it didn't come with it though, I got mine from Verizon a week ago and it was mailed to be, and it came with 2.0.1

I got it from Best Buy. I can't even wipe the thing though it just hangs when I try.

And I already apologize for making the rookie forum mistake of posting this thread in the wrong forum. Sorry.

Some times, as is with all brands, you can get a bad device. If you've had it one day and it's bonking on the update, take it back and get an exchange.

Yeah gonna try to take it back today. Thought maybe there was something I haven't tried yet.
