Droid email (factory app) signature configured but not working

I noticed that under account-settings, I can configure a signature.

I did that, but when sending a new message (or replying to an old one) the signature I configured in account-settings does not appear.

What do I have to do, to get the signature to appear on messages?

This seems dumb.
