Are there any droid help or `dummies` books

Nope, that's too device specific. There are plenty of Android books but most of them are written for development purposes (i.e. how to program ect.) not for actual "device use." Search through the threads here and on AllDroid, get your hands 'dirty' (just play around with the device) and you should have a firm handle on it before too long.
