The article may be poorly written, but it brings up two good points as to why some users might want to wait for something else. The inability to transmit anything but images/videos recorded on the phone via HDMI is actually quite disappointing, highly unjustified since HDMI transport is encrypted anyway, and just as insulting as the locked boot loader.

You can watch movies through the HDMI.

I have one on my family plan, but it's out in California so I can't verify one way or the other. So you're saying I can copy a movie I've ripped to h.264 720 to the SD card and play it back via HDMI? Everything I've read implies you can only play back movies recorded on the phone. Thanks for any clarification you can provide.
