Derby the Dog was born with deformed minuscule front legs. This basically left him in a state in which he must crawl around, pushing himself with his back legs. Then, Tara Anderson entered his life. She fell in love with Derby and adopted him, and at first she outfitted the pup with some wheels that allowed him to get around pretty well. Unfortunately his movements were still pretty limited, especially his pivoting capabilities.
However, it just so happens that Anderson also works as 3D Systems’ director of CJP product management. She teamed up with her co-workers to use the 3D printing technology form their company to create prosthetic "limbs" for Derby. The results were astounding, and now little Derby can run around like all the other dogs and actually keeps up with Anderson and her family when out and about.
It's amazing what the creative spirit can accomplish!
