The Dell Venue 8 7840 has just been updated to 5.1. According to some users the ability to easily unlock the bootloader has been added to this update making this one of the most developer friendly tablets around. If you have ever owned a Nexus device then you know just how easy it is to unlock the bootloader with fastboot commands. All you have to do is install the fastboot exe to your pc, reboot phone into fastboot mode (adb reboot bootloader), then execute the command "fastboot OEM unlock". Data will be wiped when unlocking the bootloader so be sure to backup any and all important files first. With an unlocked bootloader you should be able to root this device pretty easily. Who knows maybe this will spark developer interest for more development.
