Dell has apparently abandoned their Android tablet product line. They recently announced they will no longer be making any Android based tablets, and will not even be pushing out updates to their existing ones. They indicated they intend to refocus their efforts on 2-in-1 Windows devices instead.

Dell will continue to provide remaining warranty support to their existing Android tablet line, like the Dell Venue 8. Here's a quote from a Dell spokesperson in an email,

"The slate tablet market is over-saturated and is experiencing declining demand from consumers, so we’ve decided to discontinue the Android-based Venue tablet line."

What do you folks think of Dell's decision? Do any of you own a Dell Android tablet?

We had a Dell 8 in the family. It was just a tablet. Nothing fancy.

My first thought was, "Dell made Android tablets?" I wonder if you can get them on the cheap like some of those old HP 10 inch tablets.

My first thought was they must have been bought out by Samsung.

Dell still exists?
Jk.

Yeah I can understand abandoning tablets but I would definitely pick up Chromebooks.

I know it's a joke but I know a lot of companies who use Dell only.

Great laptops, still have two.
Tablets are different tech that dell couldn't handle.

Was Dell actually manufacturing tablets or were they simply slapping their logo on another manufacturer's product, like their "Dell" printers, jukeboxes, etc.?

I remember an HP Tablet... They had a proprietary OS, and at one point they were unloading them for nothing...
There was a process to change the OS to Android, but I chose a Nexus instead...

I still have my HP touchpad. I put Android on it...I think I got it up to KitKat before I stopped worrying about it. I think there's lollipop and maybe marshmallow Roms for it now... I forgot Dell made tablets.

I remember those...and the great "fire sale" on 'em. I never got one but many did, and swapped it over to Android.

Wonder if Dell will have their own fire sale on these tablets...
