Deleting certain features like mute

How can I move or delete the mute button on the phone? I am constantly muting myself accidentally and don't seem to be able to correct it because the screen keeps going blank.

i had the same problem and was very frustrated. i fiddled with the droid until i found a solution. When making or receiving a call--immediately afterer hit your HOME button at the bottom of the phone. when your HOME page is there you can't access your mute button.
if you need to get back to that menu--pull down from top of your screen and the phone menu shows up again.
