This is what carrier pressure does to good cellphones. Unlocked phones are the way to go, but since everybody is in love with contracts, service providers get to dictate the terms for using YOUR hardware. (I purchased my Droid outright and switched to an alternate and cheaper local carrier here, because screw paying 80 bucks a month for basic phone service)
