Deerfield Beach? Please help.

Why does my phone insist that im in Deerfield Beach? GPS on or off, restarted, battery pulls, dolphin says it, news and weather, beautiful widgets, twitter, etc. Why? Ive tried everything. Super annoying.

Well then yea, it's triangulating your location based on your local cell tower (that's providing your reception) unless you have GPS enabled it is NOT going to be accurate.

EDIT: Just noticed your based in Cleveland, so that's out of the question since I know your signal isn't coming from 900 miles away. lol.

It doesnt make sense though. I am 13 miles south of Cleveland, OH, and it is saying I am in Deerfield Beach, FL. Ive never been there, and theres no way im picking up a cell tower from there. Im thinking it is a software issue, even if I manually put in my zip for beautiful widgets I still will see Deerfield Beach atleast once a day.

I have no idea, that's truly bizarre.

Try downloading The Weather Channel's app and tell it to find "My Location" via menu, and see if it says that too, if it does I'll be truly shocked.

Well, it did it!

When i installed the app and entered my zip it was fine, then as soon as i clicked "my location" it sent me to Deerfield Beach! I thought i was crazy until now. Heres proof:

Bro I won't lie, that's just messed up. I'd contact Verizon and have then fix you up with a new handset, because something is terribly wrong with your software I think.

:icon_eek:

That Weather Channel app never lies.

I just ran up to Verizon to see what they had to say. Of course I get there and the issue is no where to be seen. I had changed cell towers from my home to VZW and I think thats why I didnt get to replicate the problem. Anyway, the guy did a battery pull, then installed Advance Task Killer, why VZW employees want to hinder someones experience with a task killer is beyond me, but I humored him. Finally he writes the tech support number down in case it continues so I can get a replacement.

So no help or incite what-so-ever with Verizon employees. Go figure.

The easiest solution is to move to Deerfield beech.

Lmao!! I'm sorry, I know this offers no type of assistance...but that's damn funny!

Back on topic, of out still going crazy when you're at home? I'd be interested to watch the maps as you leave the VZW store and see when it makes the jump to Deerfield? If nothing fixes it, don't take no for an answer...tell them that you want a new phone, and that if that one does the same thing, at least you eliminated the phone as being the issue...

Good luck

I haven't noticed it happening since then, but you never know. If it starts again I will definitely get a replacement.

Is there any way you were connected to a verizon extender? When I connect at home to my extender, it says I am 100+ miles away. Maybe your neighbor has one. If it does it again make a call and listen at the start of the call, if you hear a tone it means you are connected to an extender. Probably not the problem, but there is a chance.

Aside from the extender possibility (though I assume this problem occurs when away from your home as well, ruling that out) I have no idea what the problem is.

I do however live only a short drive from Deerfield Beach and will keep and eye out for you and your phone in the event that, as quantum physics suggests is possible, the subatomic particles are in two places at once and, against all odds, have happened to fall into an exact configuration duplicating your existence. This matter would of course have to be looked into by VZW due to the possible network security concerns.

Good luck space travelers.
