D2 is a great stand alone phone. I'm currently not rooted and while I prefer the speed of overclocking and do notice a bit of lag here and there, it's an outstanding phone stock.
I think that part of the reason I'm not disturbed by what I perceive as a very small lag every now and then is because I owned a Blackberry Storm at one time. Now I thought that phone was fast so when I got my hands on the D1 I said "super phone." So I guess that's where I get my complacency from.
Still I would like to have something new but it's not going to happen for a solid year from now. Maybe a few months earlier if I can get an early upgrade. I have an idea of what I want but I'm not saying anything at this time, I want to see what all is available by then.
That's what I heard too. I'm sticking with droid 2, it's an awesome phone, and even better with liberty. As long as we support the devs, the will support the phone.
Support for anything slows down the D2 is great tho Quadrant numbers on it are at the top for its class and I love it. Wanna jump to 4g but i can wait for now.
Liberty has made the phone great. Truth is all android phones feel the same due to the os. I like my Droids keyboad and basic look. So its cool
2 year contracts are a pain tho so i wont be upgrading till next year unless the Droid Bionic really is that nice!
GB (I assume you're referring to the rooted stock GB leak) also appears to have various issues based on some posts I've seen.
I'm currently running Apex (came from Fission), as I must have the Blur email app (main reason is need to have email search capability) and AFAIK, Liberty and other de-blurred ROMs are no good for me due to the removal of blur email. I also get better battery life w/the blur battery manager in place in Apex.
I'm not surprised by the D2 ROM development slow down, but am a little saddened by it...I do really like my D2, both looks and performance, and I don't even use the physical keyboard (swype fanatic). However, the Bionic and other releases this year may tempt me to wander.
Wont be terribly long now. My guess is either mid July or August. So like another 3 or 4 months until my phone I just got only a month ago is 100% obsolete.
I have the odexed because the deodexed screwed with some of my apps, but overall the GB leak has been awesome. I could imagine running this for a long time and being content with my phone, which is saying a lot considering I love to flash crap. I just recently went from Liberty 2.0 back to the GB b/c I get more out of the GB both battery and performance wise.
