Correct Battery use

Ive always heard different things about how to treat a brand new battery and i don't remember the proper way. Are you supposed to drain it completely and then charge it completely before using? or does this even matter? I dont want to ruin my X battery the first day!

doesn't matter on new devices. back in the days they had batteries with memory, they're long gone.

This is true. All you need to do is charge it for a couple of hours when you first get it. Some people don't even do that. And you no longer need to discharge the battery completely. The only problem is with a smart phone it sucks up a lot of battery. Depending on how much you use it, expect to have to give it at least one booster charge per day. I have an extra battery and charger on hand as well. When I'm not using it I put it in a dock and let it charge there.

DO NOT fully drain Lithium Ion Batteries this causes huge strain on the battery.

Lithium ion does not have memory so you can plug it in for short charges..ect it does not matter, but after 2 years regardless it will start degrading.

The cooler you keep the battery the longer it will last as well.

Thanks for the warning. Who said you should drain it?

^ for a new phone never most of the time, they usually just say charge it fully before using it.

But if your battery is starting to loose its charge faster, they tell you to do that to "recalibrate" the battery meter. This is ok once in a while, but fully discharging over and over is bad for the battery :X
