Why is check for system update not available in Verizon net? Check over wifi never completes either.

When you try to update, it should say "system is up to date" if you've got the latest firmware which is 2.3.20

OTA update

I have the original droid and im routed running 2.2.1 FRG22D. Will I receive the update or will I need to unroot? I do not have a system update tab in the "About Phone" tab.

Yes whenever the update becomes available for you you WILL have to unroot DO NOT update while rooted
