Change ring tone for messaging

I need to have a phone ring tone (one that keeps ringing) instead of the 3-5 second tones that I can select for messaging. Anyone know of a way to use other ring tones?

You can get ringtone apps in the market and download a ringtone, or you can get ringdroid from the market and make your own out of any mp3.

But can I use that ring tone for messaging? It seems to be a set list of tones and I did not find anywhere that I can use other tones on my phone which would work fine (no real need to download new tones as the phone ones would work fine)

Well, in Ringdroid it gives you the option to save as a ringtone or notification tone.

you could use handcent, lets you choose any tone you want for different contacts in text

I am looking for OTHER tones ONLY for text messaging. Other than the ones that I have to choose from.
