We just received our new Droids ( buy one-get one, plus new every two 100 credit= 2 Droids for $100..woohoo..lol) and we love this phone. However we can't figure out how to get ringtones for text messages. Is there an app to allow this or are we just missing how to do it. We have RingDroid.

Thanks for the help,

Cas and Mindy

Welcome to the Forums!

Download a file explorer. Either Astro File Manager, or EStrongs File Explorer.

These will allow you to browse your SD card like Windows Explorer does on a PC.

Create a folder "notifications". Any mp3's or sound files you place in here will show up on your list of options for text alerts(or any other alert other than a ring tone).

Same can be done for "ringtones" but RingDroid (which you have) already does that for you :)

Welcome, CasMindy! You'll find this to be a very friendly place full of great people and information! I see Martin has already fixed you up with ringtones. Just post a question if you need any more help. The possibilities are endless for customization. So read, read, and read some more. You'll be amazed at how much you can teach yourself by reading the threads here in the forum!

Ok well not quite the answer.. I guess we need to explain a little more. We were looking for a way to customize each contact with it's own ringtone for messages. What are we missing?

By messages do you mean text messages? If so, then I hear that Handcent (there's a free version in the Market) can do that for you. The native text messaging app only lets you have one ringtone for all text messages.

I use Handcent msg app and you can do that and much, much more. I highly recommend it. It's much more customizable than the stock msg app.

My first post will allow you to use custom notifications for text messages.
Handcent SMS would be the app I recommend for customizing individual contacts. You can change the LED color for contacts, notification tone, etc. Give it a look see...
