Can't see what I type in google search box

Using galaxy S3 with standard browser and TouchPal keyboard. Have google as homepage. As soon as I tap the search box I see my last 3 searches but search box is now off the screen so I can't see what I'm typing even though it's there OK. Tried dolphin and chrome. Also tried standard keyboard. Same with all of these. Worse in landscape mode. Used to only occur when google had special logos which are bigger now all time. Only way to fix is zoom google search box larger before tapping on it. Would ideally want to not see last 3 searches. Fiddled with zoom in browser settings no difference. Override on or off no difference etc. Ideas gratefully accepted
