can't see screen in bright sunshine

I have had my droid for 2 days and am just getting used to all the features. I have 2 problems.

1. I can't see the screen at all in bright sunlight.

2. I formerly had a Palm Treo and my contacts transfered first name first. I would prefer last name first.

Turn screen to auto brightness. home/menu button/settings/display/brightness/ check auto.

As for the last name first. That is a feature that a lot of people would like to have and have not ran across a way to do this.
