An interesting piece on engadget talks about the missing pinch-to-zoom in the Droid multitouch. Do you think that it will be just up to the app writers to implement it, or can/will Motorola or Verizon add it via an update in the future?

Yes it could be added if they choose to. The question is if they are going to.

There are two apps that allow you to do pinch/zoom.

PicSay
allows the user to open a picture on your phone and pinch/zoom
chart

Dolphin Browser allows tabbing and also pinch/zoom.

Hope this helps...............

The underlying OS: Android 2.0 supports multi-touch. It is up to the app developers to use it. If you are looking to get it in the default browser, then that is Google, not Motorola nor Verizon.

Dolphin browser is great, in my experience. It supports tabs, fullscreen, multitouch, and seems to run as smoothly as the default browser. I personally don't have that much use for pinch-to-zoom outside of web viewing (and perhaps picture zooming? haven't tried picsay.)

Also... the MILESTONE... the European twin of the MotoDROID has multi-touch!
All boils down to the whole Apple fiasco with multi-touch patent suits in the U.S.
