Please pardon the dumb question....I don't use the camera on my cell much as I usually carry a little hi-res point-and-shoot camera with me. Today, though, I didn't have the camera with me and needed to shoot something from a distance, had to use the Droid. I went to 4x zoom and shot. When I got home I downloaded the pictures and found that they were only 640x480!! Shot something at 1x and the image was 5MP. If this is the default behavior with this camera and the 2.2 app, it seems that the zoom function is useless. Any way to zoom and still get 5 (or at least 2 or 3) MP images? I realize that the images aren't going to be razor-sharp...but 640x480 sucks.

Running rooted 2.2 on a Droid 1 -

Thanks
Bob

No, because the phone doesn't have optical zoom, only digital.

Just look up "digital zoom" and "interpolation" and you'll understand why your photos are tiny.

I don't think there is a phone out there that has optical zoom.

That's what I figured, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the definitive info...guess I'll just have to pack the other camera with me more often.
