Calendar events erased on its own

I have the Droid X and I sat up a calendar event and saved it at the bottom of the screen and when I went to home screen it showed on upcoming events. Then it disappeared. Is this a known issue or is this something that I'm doing wrong??

From what I have found out you must have to person you are meeting in your contact list along with their email. If you have the email it will stay but it will also send a email to that person asking them if they are attending or not. I downloaded the notepad app and just use that.
