When will I be able to place my phone in my pocket and not call someone, buy something, have flashlight turn on, have "Do not disturb" turn on or off, etc.?
What am I missing?
What tech breakthrough is required?

Pixel 8, this is not a new wish, every phone I've had since flip phones, can't tell when its in a pocket.

I've never had that issue with my Pixel 8 if anything sometimes I have to use the side button to get to the lockscreen to use fingerprint to unlock

I always use the side button, but notice there is a delay before phone is truly locked, hit the button again and it opens, no fingerprint is required. Also the screen can be swiped down to bring up the notifications, do not disturb, wallet, flashlight, etc., without unlocking.

You could try to rearrange the quick settings tiles so Flashlight is not right there in the lockscreen tiles. I have never had an issue with any of my Pixels turning on flashlight in my pocket, or dialing a call

Have you figured this out yet? I know it have been a while, but I'll still share in case someone else looks for a resolution:

In Android 14, there is at least a 5 second delay on the lock screen until it truly locks.

Go into Lock Screen and AOD, then go to Secure Lock Settings (enter your pin), and tap "Auto Lock and screen turns off". There you will see option from 5 seconds on up to 30 minutes for the delay.
You can also check to make sure you did not enable extended unlock, where it remains unlocked as long as it senses you have it on your body.

You can also check out the "Show lockdown Option". This adds a button to the shutdown screen that you tap and it instantly locks the screen and requires the fingerprint/pattern/pin to unlock.

Maybe one of those will help you out?
