I had the same problem, my phone turned off then when restarted the battery symbol had a ? in it. I just shut down my phone waited and turned it back on and it was fine. Something is still messed up the back light isn't on with the slide out keyboard.

Try charging the battery...are either of you rooted?

I've had that happen to me a couple times, I just rebooted the phone & carried on with life.

Rooted with BB 0.9, btw
