Are "console controllers" possible?

With the emulators being available it is still a bit clunky when playing most games to control your characters. I was wondering if it were possible at all to set something up to be able to use a controller of some sort via bluetooth connection or plugging one in?

IIRC someone got a BT keyboard working.

Now that the phone is rooted, it may be possible to install linux drivers for certain gamepads. Though, I haven't heard of anything being worked on.
