Apps from Marketplace to home screen

I just got my phone today. Is there a way to get the apps to show up somewhere where I can get them onto my home screen? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I can't find the answer anywhere.

im not sure if the lg ally is android based but im guessing it is...if so just open your app window..find the app you want on your home screen push the app and hold...your drawer will disappear and your home screen should appear

It is android based.
I know that much, but the apps from the marketplace arent appearing in my main menu.

edit:
make sure they are isntalled
if they are but arent in the drawer, this is more of a last result solution, factory reset

Thanks, I found them in the add>shortcut>application menu.

I long press and the home screen appears...but the app icon falls into the garbage can! it is styill there but still not on my home screen
