Applications on my new Razr

Since my last phone was the first droid, I was very excited to get the Razr. I am loving it so far! However, when I run advanced task killer I see applications that I have not been using. For example maps, I have not used that app since I got the phone. On my last phone it would only show those I ran. So I assume this means they are running even though I am not using them at this time. How do I turn those off so that I only run them when I need them?
I have tried everything.

Welcome to the forum, lots of those apps and maps in particular are system apps and would keep running on the background. I share your frustration as it is annoying. I found that some of the bloatware coming with the phone can be uninstalled. The rest can be installed after rooting. Luckily the phone is very strong and fast therefore can handle these processes in the background.
