It looks interesting, but the article mentions only the app X-Ray and while that's OK, it's not available on Google Play. It doesn't scan apps, but basically lets you know if your phone is vulnerable. If it is you're to contact your carrier to see if there's an update or install a ROM (according to X-Ray's FAQ).

Still it might be good to install, but it dosen't offer much of a solution (other than what I mentioned). An update depends on Verizon and even the X-Ray creators say that it's possible that a ROM can cause another vulnerability.

Answering the title of your thread, your actions with Android may put yourself at risk just as with any other OS. Where are you trying to go here? If for example you take Symantec's word for it any method/root exploit is a security risk so that's a pretty big blanket statement and not true.

Basically that is just an article that is trying to scare you into buying their software. Their "research" is based on their own software and not an independent study of actual threats/vulnerabilities.

Haven't seen anything for sale yet. It declares ics secure and 905 vuln to gingerbreak, which is so far correct.

You could be right. It is possible that the article is not biased given that it is not directly selling their product from the article but the article comes from Kapersky Lab Security which Kapersky sells virus /internet/pc/mobile protection software... so that always makes me suspicious.

For some reason I'm more comfortable with kapersky being involved than symantec or mcafee
