while most of them are junk, its good to see peoples interest in the android market, with big numbers (OVER 9000) comming in each month, it might just catch the interest of other (better) develepoers

Yeah, I'm loving Android, and I'm sure the iPhone has libraries of useless, uninsteresting apps, but a lot of the stuff I've been seeing in the Android Market is just plain junk. I say that first and foremost as my opinion, but the ratings speak for themselves. I'm sure we've all come across AROMA PLANNING. There are easily over 100 apps by this dev, all with no higher than 1 and a half stars.

What I think needs to be implemented is a system where applications have an attached quota. For example:
-Less than X number of downloads in X number of days = automatic removal
-Application retains less than a three star rating for X number of days = automatic removal

As others have mentioned, there seems to be a lack of good moderation, so it may be in better interests to implement an automated policy. This will be rather helpful for those of us looking for some quality apps without having to sift through DOZENS of worthless ones.

The market is booming! Steady increase in apps per month. March did very well.

Too bad 8000 of them were lame supposed porn apps.
I really wish google would add some better search and browse features to the market so I don't have to wade through 100's of those worthless apps just to get to see a new app or two that might be useful.

I agree, most of them are complete trash. Maybe 10 out of the 9000 are actually decent apps. They must count stuff like add-ons for existing apps too. A skin for an app is not an app. They should add categories like "most downloaded" or "highest rated" to the market so people can find the good stuff.

Apple's market has been around for a lot longer so it's very understandable that they have more high quality apps. Seems the best developer for apps on Android is Google, they can't do it alone. Maybe Google should start paying developers to make apps for Android or offer some kind of incentive like free hardware.

They already do have a "Top Rated" in the Market. Its called "Top Free" and "Top Paid" when you are looking at apps. As far as Google paying developers for apps or offering incentives, they will NEVER do that. Apple doesn't pay any Developers for the apps on the iPhone so why would Google pay Developers for apps on Android? Developers make money just being able to develop these apps and put them on the market. I do agree that Google needs to regulate it somehow. All of these Soundboards and other crappy apps are annoying.

PS: Yes Apple has way better apps. Some may be duplicates but there are a lot less worthless apps on the iPhone than there are on Android. Android needs to step the game up as far as apps go.

But at the same time, Steve Jobs wants to control everything about the iPhone. He wants to limit your capabilities to what he wants. I agree they could add some different search features to make it easier for you, but be happy that developers are making apps. Yes some are useless, but as someone previously said, maybe that will wake up other app makers that haven't made apps for android yet.

droid market

I agree that there should be a better system, but if you do that you go against androids idea of open making androids whole point about the marketplace is that it is open source for developers and not a strict store like apple; but I don't think a quality system if monitored right would go against that some may think so. I agree with one of the users above that if there rating is below 3 and the downloaded control as well. there is a lot of apps but i think having those "crappier apps" will give other developers ideas and then they can make them better.
