in the "people" icon that lists your contacts in the address book:

1. what do the different colored boxes with the initial on it represent?

2. can you turn off this colored box feature? i know that you can do it in gmail but how about the address "people" book?

thanks

I've seen this question in another forum. The colors in the boxes appear to be random. The only way that I know to change them is to add photos.

Hmm mm. If I remember from my razr max days....
I think I remember the initials being from the account the contact is tethered to. Like an f means it's a Facebook contact, 's Skype, etc.
Then again.... I may be waaaay off base

The initials are from the contacts themselves. J world be from Joe, T from Tom, etc. The background colors are all different, and random.

You can't remove them, only replace them. (At least I have not seen any way to remove them.)

You can't remove them. If you are like me and you take pictures of all your contacts so they show up on your phone when they call, those boxes become the pictures.

I'm not sure about that. I don't know many people, in my phone book, that have actually added their photo to gmail.

An Easy solution, Take plain Bond paper (not the James kind) Write the names of people (from your contacts)
and take a picture of it. Then apply that pic to the contact then everytime they call you their name will appear Big and Bold on your screen.

Works pretty cool and its something different.

For business contacts I take a photo of their business card,a logo found online, whatever had their business name. For personal I just use a photo that reminds me of them if I don't have a photo of them themself. My twin brother once sent me a photo of a lightning strike he was able to capture and I use it for his is an example of what I mean.

I do the same with the business contacts. And I'm going to use your idea for others that I don't have photos for...
