How do I access a sound file sent to my gmail account?

When I click on my gmail icon, it goes to my account and I have the sound file that was sent to me and can even play it from the email by selecting the "preview button", but how do I take it off email so I can save it to SD and/or make it a ringtone?

This is a known problem with the Android OS. 'No way of saving anything from an email except a view choice extensions (like .jpg). You might have better luck going to the gmail.com web site through the browser and trying that.

Your right.. I had to go to the browser and log onto my gmail account and then I could download it.. only problem is somewhere along the way the extension gets changed and then it wouldn't go into a ringtone.

I finally just had to access it from my laptop and then usb link to my phone to keep it an mp3 and then it worked fine.

This stinks and I 'd love a fix. I get my home VM sent to me via a .wav file via email but can't listen to them in my Gmail account.

However, I get my work VM sent to me via my work email on exchange and can listen to those just fine.

Why doesn't google allow this on their own email service but you can get it on others? I guess the solution is to have the home VM sent to my work email address but I'd like to not have to do that if possible.

I know this is old

I know this thread is months old but for you VM if you want audio just use google voice. I have an invite if you want.

But yea I got here google searching gmail attachments as I cannot open any. figured they would have fixed this by now. grr

I didn't realize that it wasn't possible to do anything other than just preview an audio file, that sucks.

Even previewing seems very limited to size...

anybody figure out a way to receive a large audio file and save it to SD?

"attachemail" works pretty good for sending but its a bummer not to be able to receive...... Googles mobile email has issues, or is it just their app?

I use the browser to check my hotmail but am not able to download attachments. It says the file name but you cannot click on it or anything. Is there a solution to this somehow??

I don't use hotmail "only gmail" and I haven't even tried it with the new browser in the Incredible.... but It used to work with dolphin browser....
I'll have to do some experimenting.

Try Blackmoon Attachsave Lite. It's free but there is a full version for $1.50.

It works with the preview button. Click on the preview button and it will give you choice to save the attachment through Blackmoon - blackmoon does not launch on it's own, it works with your Gmail and Mail apps.

The difference between the lite and full version is that lite version only allows you to save to the download folder unless you have Blackmoon File Manager installed, and does not try to guess the filename. You have to enter a file name. You can move the file later using a file manager (such as Blackmoon File Manager - free).

The full version reads the email and uses the attachment's name as the file name. It's worth the $1.50.

Blackmoon... what a crazy name!... if it wasn't for word of mouth we would never find these apps on the market!

Great find.. thanks!

I agree! LOL. Who knows why they name things the way they, too. I have been playing with the file manager and it is pretty good. Allowed me to get rid of Astro File Manager which I was using.

Now I'm searching for an equalizer for the mediaplayer. Found a couple but they aren't any good.
