Correlating signal strength with up/down speeds

I am trying to understand if there is a problem with the coverage in my condo, my phone, or perhaps just a misunderstanding of how the OG Droid draws its signal bars. Ran a few "scientific" tests to see if I could make sense of things. Exact results at the bottom. What it comes down to is that...

    Nexus reception poll please vote

I was just at a VZW corporate store in downtown Chicago (Michigan Ave). Both of their Nexuses could not get a 4G signal in the store, whereas every other 4G device could (Rezound, Razr, Bionic, etc). This is the second time I've visited that store and noticed it unable to get on 4G. Seemed like...

A WARNING for Galaxy Nexus potential buyers

Agreed. Even if you do have to keep in touch with 1700 people, you need to organize that stuff. Having 1700 unorganized contacts feels like the equivalent of placing every file from your computer on the desktop and then complaining how you can't find things.

Where to next? After OG Droid, Nexus doesn't really do it for me.

I liked that at too, but after a while I got bored with flashing ROMs and all that stuff. I found a lot of them to be unstable just for the promise of having some extra feature I may never use. I don't need a new phone with oodles of ROM support, I just want one that's stable and gives me the...

Where to next? After OG Droid, Nexus doesn't really do it for me.

Agree to a certain extent. I can look past a lot of things that the typical person would hate, but I don't think asking for a phone with very good build quality is that unreasonable. Objectively the Skyrocket has very good specifications -- on-par with or even better than the GN in most areas...

Where to next? After OG Droid, Nexus doesn't really do it for me.

I had a Bionic for a month and returned it. Again, after all that hype and wait, the phone was not that great. The battery life was horrid (to be expected on LTE) but Motoblur was just terrible. The worst thing of all was the Pentile display -- I could see it very clearly even when I wasn't...

Where to next? After OG Droid, Nexus doesn't really do it for me.

Feels really plasticky and cheap compared to the Droid. Objectively it of course blows the OG Droid out of the water, but subjectively I didn't really like it, even after a good 5-10 minutes tinkering with it at the store (no sales guys hassling me, by the way).

Where to next? After OG Droid, Nexus doesn't really do it for me.

Back in November of 2009 I was done dealing with AT&T's horrid network in Chicago so I gladly paid an ETF, sold my iPhone 3G, and snapped up a Motorola Droid. It was a phenomenal device that I knew I had to own once I played with it. I bought it the day it came out. Two years later it is dying a...

    Netflix audio trouble

Pandora does the same thing. I remember long ago on the OG Droid it was related to some system files with a bad codec or something.

    My Bionic's first big fall

The Gorilla Glass is what's the saving grace. I saw a guy drop his Evo 4G on the sidewalk and shatter it yesterday...won't happen with GG.

    Micro sd xdsc?

No, it does not, hence the 32GB SD limitation.

    Get rid of motoblur

Motoblur is the custom "skin" applied onto Android by Motorola. Look at the Nexus S...same Android version as the Bionic (2.3.x) but it has no custom theme applied. It is called "vanilla". Different icons, different widgets, different launcher.

Wall vs USB charging (vs Inductive)

If you install the Motorola drivers, it will allow the computer to send additional power across the USB cable (5x).

    Bionic camera update?

tl;dr: buy a real camera to take photos.

    Get rid of motoblur

You can hide a lot of Motoblur by rooting and removing some of the pre-installed software. I just installed a different Launcher (w/o) root to at least get a more "vanilla" appearance.

    Light leakage?

Anyone else getting some light leakage between the digitizer and lower bezel? Not a huge deal but my OG Droid didn't have that problem.

    New ROM

Rooting allows for removal of pre-installed software, among other things. Not everyone wants a custom ROM.
