Got my Turbo free, gave up unlimited data and got a hella deal.

So I walked in with a stiff upper lip holding my hand up to the CSR before she said anything and said "No matter what you offer I'm not giving up my unlimited data"! I folded pretty quickly. I switched over to the Edge More Everything plan which is unlimited talk/text and 30GB data shared between my two lines for $130/month. I think the max I've ever used in a month was 20GB. The end result of this is that my 64GB Turbo was free, I got $100 in free accessories, they are going to take my trade in today, and credit another $100. Probably the best part for me is that Hot Spotting is included in this deal so I no longer have to worry about rooting or finding a workaround. That being said there appears to be an issue with the entitlement check and hot spotting is not working right now on some Turbos. VZ and Moto are aware of this. I may try to swap the phone out this afternoon to see if it helps.

Damn. I should've held out instead of dropping my unlimited plan and preordering the Note 4 online. Though you "folded pretty quickly," that's a nice deal. Good work!

The 32 GB ends up being free or close to it on big enough data plan if you use edge . you get 25.00 discount ..

I was offered 6 gb/month with $15 extra for every gb over if I gave up my unlimited. It was tempting to save $400. I'm going to hold out for now, especially with all the uncertainty with tethering. They were also going to honor the 100 gift card for my Galaxy Nexus regardless of whether I upgraded or bought it for retail.

On the phone now with Verizon and negotiating a new Turbo while keeping my unlimited data and Friends and Family plan. I'll report back when I have the results I'm looking for.

Here's my concerns with that, you're going to have the mobile hotspot on your plan and that's probably going to result in using more data than you have used in the past simply for the convenience, wouldn't it?

Also, we're now talking about a phone with a camera resolution that's probably not only 2 times possibly three times the resolution of the camera you have now and in all likelihood you're probably not going to want to use a 21 megapixel camera to take 8 megapixel camera pictures, as well as the fact that I can shoot 4 k video, which means you're probably not gonna wanna shoot 720 I or 1080 I.

Now, if you don't use the camera all that often then the high resolution isn't really going to impact your data all that much I would expect. What really concerns me is that as we move forward in this industry we're going to see less and less of the larger and larger phone resident apps, and we're going to start to see more and more of the web applications for these phones instead.

This means we're going to be using more and more data as time goes on and I think anybody that wants to argue that is going to find themselves quickly losing that argument. Data is getting faster and the bandwidth is getting wider so the natural trend for the developers will be to take advantage of that wider bandwidth and faster speeds and instead of writing larger applications that stand alone on the phone and bog it down, will want to instead build even larger and more powerful applications that can run as fast as lightning on large servers and only have a bit of data transmitted back and forth to keep the graphical user interface on the phone functioning the way it's supposed to.

This also means they have less risk of pirating, and instead of charging one fee for the application, instead they can charge a subscription fee as the trend is moving towards, and now they have a stream of revenue that they can depend upon instead of having to resell the application every single time to a new user.

I go with whatever Fox says (trust) - I just bought mine and kept my data for now.

OK!! So here's the scoop this time...everyone, and I mean EVERYONE listen carefully.

I have three phone lines, the first two are smartphone Unlimited Data lines and the third is a non-data (dumb phone) line. I have the Friends and Family plan with 1400 minutes of calling per month. I pay 99.99 or whatever it is for that 1400 minutes of calling. I pay $29.99 per month for each of the two smartphones. I pay $9.99 for the dumb phone. I pay $5 per month for 250 text messages on one of the smartphones.

Now, I am already holding one Motorola MAXX that I had Edged up on last year (12 months ago), and which is costing me $20.83 per month. That Edge up was on the NON-DATA line at that time, and was then moved to the primary Unlimited Data line.

Tonight, I got...drum roll......

Edge up the NON-DATA line, they're sending me overnight, delivery Monday (no charge), a new Droid TURBO Ballistic Nylon 64GB. I am placing the Droid MAXX in the box and sending it back seeing as how I've satisfied the minimum requirement of paying off half of the phone's cost.

I will stop paying the 20.83 per month for the MAXX, and will instead begin paying $27.08 per month for the TURBO.

We are activating the new phone ON THE NON-DATA LINE with the SIM it will have INCLUDED and will have the NON-DATA LINE PHONE NUMBER on... It will have a $29.99 per month DATA PACKAGE added... I am instructed by the Level Two Verizon Technician to keep that phone on that line starting Monday and with the SIM it came with until the Technician calls me back on Wednesday, at which time he will do three things...

First, he will do an ESN change on the NEW SIM CARD, putting my primary phone number onto the new sim.
He will then PRORATE the DATA PLAN to only the 3 days it had data and then SHUT DATA DOWN on that line.
He will then activate the dumb phone back onto that line again.

He has assured me that if it is done that way, it will NOT trigger loss of the Unlimited Data on the primary line.

He has assured me that if the new Data Package is discontinued on the now NON-DATA line, it will NOT trigger any termination of service or early termination fees.

It will NOT cause me to have to pay any additionally for the phone.

It will NOT result in me having to keep DATA on that dumb phone line for the 2 years as we've been told it would.

And it will NOT cause an automatic change of data plan and replace Unlimited Data with a 6GB (or 2GB) tiered plan data on my primary line.

Sounds awesome. Next time you talk to them ask them if they can beat:

$180 a month for 4 phone lines of unlimited talk and text. 20 GBs of data shared between the 4 phones.

Gave up my unlimited for 6 gig of data. But I'm not too worried lol and both of my sisters both have unlimited and they moved out. I guess I can always switch to their phone lines since both of them are living out of the country at the moment

There is just too much brain power in this thread... I am so glad I do not have to deal with a US Carrier.
I have 500 minutes outgoing unlimited incoming, 250 SMS and unlimited data all for $25 bucks a month......

BUT: There are no subsidized phones. You pay full retail and resale prices are usually very good.
