You should go change your Yahoo account passwords right now! Yahoo has confirmed that at least 500 million user accounts that were stolen in 2014 have just been leaked to the internet. They are recommending that Yahoo account holders change their passwords right now. According to Yahoo the information was accessed by a "state sponsored actor". The information accessed includes identifiable information, but no bank or credit card information has been accessed.

Yahoo Press Release:

A recent investigation by Yahoo! Inc. has confirmed that a copy of certain user account information was stolen from the company’s network in late 2014 by what it believes is a state-sponsored actor. The account information may have included names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords (the vast majority with bcrypt) and, in some cases, encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers. The ongoing investigation suggests that stolen information did not include unprotected passwords, payment card data, or bank account information; payment card data and bank account information are not stored in the system that the investigation has found to be affected. Based on the ongoing investigation, Yahoo believes that information associated with at least 500 million user accounts was stolen and the investigation has found no evidence that the state-sponsored actor is currently in Yahoo’s network. Yahoo is working closely with law enforcement on this matter.

It is always a good idea to use different passwords for different accounts, and of course changing passwords regularly is also good practice. You should also make use of two factor authentication were its available.

Yep, just got an email notice a few minutes ago, and saw it posted on Fox News hours ago. Change your passwords NOW.

For my junk email folder, it works perfectly. Websites need an email, I use yahoo, it will go in the folder with all the Cialis ads and single Russian women in my area.

Haven't used Yahoo since? Probably no reason to try to change it?

I have a buddy who uses yahoo for his business stuff. No idea why. I didn't even know you could have an @yourdomain.com address through yahoo, but he does.

I notified him of this as soon as I saw it.

Yahoo had to sell everything before, otherwise they would get nothing for it... ;)

So Yahoo was hacked two years ago...I think I last logged into my account 3 years ago. Hopefully the hackers have already deleted and removed all the SPAM for me since then.

Been so long since I was on my yahoo account, I'll have to call the Chinese to see if they can give me my password from the hack they did to me a few years ago, so I can go change it on yahoo.

I don' understand how this is breaking news when it happened in 2014? I remember when it happened, Yahoo notified me and I changed my password and set up 2 factor authentication.
