I forgot to add the speaker on the Droid is louder than the X. The volume may get fixed with Froyo, some ppl said it does sound louder. My headphone jack or the FM Radio is louder after installing Froyo, the rest its hard to tell to me.

I had the D1 from last December until a day after the release of the X. I never once have thought of going back to the D1. I see it everyday as it is now my wife's phone, but it really doesn't hold a candle to the X. I was very avid with flashing the latest and greatest on the D1 for a while. But once the romance wore off, that slowed from three times a week (or more) to once a month or whenever the mood struck.

Root was out on the X much faster than expected. I was very pleased with that. The recent work of Koush, P3Droid and other has been more than enough to keep me busy. It is still early and I expect there will be more options to play with as time goes on. The fact that I can't flash it with a bugless beast doesn't really bother me. The thing is fast as hell to begin with and the battery life has yet to disappoint. With root I can tweak a few things to my liking and get rid of the Blur. My X feels plenty vanilla and never bogs down.

D1 was my "transition" phone away from keyboards. I don't think I'll ever go back. I'm glad I don't have the extra unused hardware bulking up the phone.

I will never go to a smaller screen. I'd actually like an even bigger one. 4.8 or even 5" would still be okay with me. When I hold my old D1 it feels so amazingly tiny. Which is odd, because just 8 months ago that screen was the bee's knees.

As for the recent end of life news, I really couldn't care less. The end of life is meaningless if I have the phone in my hand right now. Why should I care if someone else won't be able to buy this phone at some point in the future? I have it now and when I want to upgrade to something else I will.

I also got the D1 on release day back in November and I loved it the whole time. I got the X on release day too, and I love it even more. I would love to have custom ROMs available for my X, but it's not as critical as it was with the D1. The X performs better in every way than my D1 did when it was running Sapphire and overclocked to 1.25ghz, so as long as we have themes (which we do) I wont really miss the ROMs all that much. I also still think custom ROMs will be here much sooner than the naysayers expect. The kernals will be a tougher problem though, luckily the X is already really fast without big overclock speeds.

I got my DX yesterday after playing with my girlfriends for a while. Coming from a rooted D1 with Sapphire and a 1.2 Ghz processor. I don't really see a difference in speed in the two devices. I love the bigger screen, the better camera, transfering files between my phone and my girlfiends through wifi with the dlna, and the noise cancelation. I hate the bloatware, no 2.2, and crapblur. I miss my old gallery, my homerun battle 3d character, and a slide out keyboard so I could read the screen while typing.

I do not plan to flash Froyo onto my DX before the OTA update which should be in about a week or so. If it doesn't happen by that time I will probably go ahead and take the plunge since I was able to grab a copy of the update.zip before Moto started yanking it.

Ill see how i feel about the phone after froyo hits it.

Had the D1 for 3.5 weeks...payed 1 cent for it through amazon (with a new contract...since I escaped from Apple...lol) Then the DX came around and I went to the VZ store to get a hands on demo and fell in love! I gave them back my D1 (at a corporate store location) where they credited my VZ account with $249.00 and ordered my DX. I had to pay the $300 for it but got the $100 rebate and had to use an old VZ phone that I got from someone till my DX came (All worth it!!!).....so my last phone bill was paid in full and I still have a nice credit towards my next bill too! Gotta love it!

Thanks for all the replies. I need to swing by a Verizon store and do a hands on check out of the X.

A question about themes on the X. What is needed to install. Are they through App Market or are they downloaded and then installed? What is the "tool"/program needed to install them if not in the market?

Themes do require root access, my current fav theme (black glass from 928Droid) uses an update.zip through the Clockworkmod Recovery. There is also a Metamorph version.

Had the original Droid and would NEVER EVER go back to it after having the X. I get 24+ hours of battery life with heavy usage and that was impossible on my D1. It's faster, nicer and overall a better phone. I have never looked back.
