Droid ultra is using this x8 which is octa-core but only actually has two application cores. Is this better than the 800? The nexus 5 is rumored to have the 800

It's hard to say which is better as we don't have any devices to compare side by side. I'm sure they both have advantages, but the way the X8 operates seems to spread the load better to me.

I'd say it's way to early to be comparing as they are not even tested in real world usage ..

there is a tru 8 core in the process of or already being made by 2 manufacturers (pretty sure one is samsung), i read about it the other day.
if this is ot, disregard.

edit, http://ausdroid.net/2013/07/29/medi...-mobile-processor-could-be-beaten-by-samsung/

The international Galaxy S4 variant has an octocore processor and the owners are still complaining of lag (or S-Lag as they call it) despite all that 'power' under the hood.

As the iPhone and the new Moto X shows, lag has much less to do with the processors and much more to do with software and gpu.
